Father, Stretch.

 

Ever had an imperfect father?

Then look no further.

It’s father’s day and I wish my father fathered greatly

but by now he is in his own grave

probably dancing in the moonlight

of “what if’s” and “has beens”

I wish it all had been real

like one who provides and looks out for my own good

but we all have had fathers

some had fathered greatly

some misunderstood

some misconstrue provision with being “present’

some have been present but lacked at providing

nevertheless;

they’ve fathered like never before

have you ever played the same song twice?

and yet found a different sound unlike the first try?

this is much akin to that

some have learned how to be

some did not and 

carried on

nevertheless;

you’re still blessed

even when expectations do not meet reality

and sweet words do not convene to experience

a life-long decision

met with derision of truth

glad to have had a father

23 years of that

he’s probably watching some Quentin films in his dreams

or in heaven

wherever that may be
